- Boat Ride with Sea Newport
Sea Newport offers dog-friendly boat excursions. They pick you up at Bowen’s Wharf and take you for a scenic cruise around the harbor. We got to see famous mansions along the coast and lots of really cool boats and yachts. The dogs had a blast and the crew even supplied water bowls for them and a cooler of beverages for the humans.
2. Co-Dough by King Park
Next, you don’t want to miss out on the Cinnamon Buns at Co-Dough! They are famous and sell out quickly. Though the line was long, it did move quickly. Pick up your cinnamon bun order and head over to King Park Beach with the dogs. There is ample parking along the beach. This beach allowed water access for Max so he could swim in the ocean and cool off on a very hot summer day. There were plenty of benches along the beach that allowed us to sit and enjoy the cinnamon buns from Co-Dough before taking off on our next activity.
3. Cliff Walk
The Cliff Walk in Newport is also famous! This is a public trail that extends for 3.5 miles along the coast. Here you will get gorgeous ocean views as well as a peak into the backyards of some of the famous Gilded Age mansions like The Breakers. We opted to do only a one mile piece of the trail because it was very hot out and the dogs were in full sun. We started at Forty Steps and ended at The Breakers. The walk was a lot of fun and very scenic.
4. Downtown Newport
Downtown Newport feels like it goes on forever in every direction. There is so much to see and walk. We started at Bowen’s Wharf and made our way up and down the streets peering into shop windows and exploring. Some of the shops were nice enough to leave water bowls out for the dogs.
5. Belle’s Cafe
Belle’s Cafe is a bit of an out of the way hidden gem. This dockside eatery is located directly inside a working shipyard. The restaurant has a large, covered patio that offers breakfast and lunch right next to multi-million dollar super yachts. The waitress provided water bowls for the dogs and they were nice and cool under the massive tent that covers the patio.
