2 Dog-Friendly Massachusetts Beaches in the Off Season

  1. Crane Beach, Ipswich

From October 1 to March 31 dogs are allowed on Crane Beach. They must be on leash at all times, but I always put Max on his long lead. The only downside is there is a $5 entry fee per car on the off season, as well as a $5 charge per dog. Crane Beach is located on a reservation, so the fees go towards upkeeping the reservation and beach.

2. Nahant Beach, Nahant

Nahant Beach has free parking in the off season! From October 1 to April 30 dog are permitted on the main beach on a leash. Across from the main beach there is a designated dog beach, which allows dogs off leash year round. The parking lot at Nahant Beach fills up quickly during the summer months, so if you are going to the dog beach (closest to Tides restaurant and beginning of parking lot), it is best to arrive early in the morning or later in the evening. Most street parking is not permitted, and your car will get towed.
