Shenandoah National Park in Virginia allows dogs, as long as they are on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Most of the trails are dog friendly, but there are a few that do not allow dogs. I learned this the hard way. We did Dark Hollow Falls trail and after doing the whole hike out and back and getting back to the parking lot, a park ranger kindly let me know that dogs are not allowed on this trail. Somehow, I had missed this in my internet research, on the All Trails app, and on the trailhead sign (though there was a crowd of people in front of it when we started the hike). There are 11 trails listed on NPS.org that are not dog-friendly. However, these account for only 20 miles of the 500+ miles of trails that Shenandoah has to offer, so I still recommend this national park for you and your dog!
