A Dog-Friendly Trip to Magna Bay

  1. Stay: Shuswap Shire Hobbit Home

This was a really cool airbnb stay. Max and I got to stay in a remote earth home surrounded by forest. It was complete with a soaking tub, living room, kitchen, and a cozy bedroom with a library. We both got the best night sleep in the cozy bed with the window open to the sounds of nature. There is a firepit outside that we did not have time to use. I recommend more than a one night stay here so you can really get the full experience and utilize the fire pit outside and the soaking tub.

2. Eat: The Raven Coffee Shop

This coffee shop is just outside Magna Bay, but still only a 10 minute drive from Shuswap Shire. This adorable coffee shop also offers sandwiches, smoothies, and baked goods. There is tons of cozy outdoor seating set up with a beach/tiki bar theme. With an outdoor window to order from, it’s the perfect lunch spot to bring your dog to.

3. Hike: Onyx Falls

This 1.8 mile out and back trail consists of an easy, downhill trail all the way to a waterfall. There is one river crossing where you have to make your way across a large log. I first attempted the crossing with Max on leash and found it to be too difficult to finagle, so let him off leash to cross on his own and I met him on the other side. The workout is on the way back because it is all uphill getting back to the parking lot. The trail is well labeled with colorful ribbons all along the route. We even got to see two deer leap right by the trail! Max had an absolute blast between the trail, the wildlife, the river crossing, and swimming in the waterfall!
